There are several strapping and banding options on the market these days. But only a few of them make it to the top. This also depends on the brand, and the kinds of industries it caters too. For example, steel and alloy industries may look at better steel or stainless steel options, small industries will smaller budgets may look at poly strapping or cord strapping. The packaging industry is constantly looking for new products that would make packing their products in a better manner.
Cord strapping is next only to poly strapping and both are considered equally strong.
Many industry users are on the switching mode from steel to poly or cord strapping because they are as strong as steel or even better. Cord strapping today is making headway in the market as it is in close competition with poly strapping. Most industries that are using poly strapping too, are slowly willing to try cord strapping.
Meanwhile manufacturers are using the latest technology in making better cord strapping which is very cost effective. Cord strapping comes in three type. They are:
- Composite
- Woven
- Bonded
Composite cord strapping is made using the non-metallic poly strapping technology. This strapping has the rigidity of steel and is considered the best for heavy cargo. However, the weight of the load and application used decides which cord to use.
Advantages
- Strong
- Safe to use
- Cost effective
- Causes no damage
- Shock absorbent
- Withstands harsh weather
Cord strapping retains good tension and has great system strength. In the European method, system strength is measured using the whole loop and the buckle together. However, in the American system break strength is taken into account by pulling a 6” piece of strapping till it breaks. Mostly, the American standard of break strength only is used by industries in order to compare cord strapping.
With many industries switching over to poly strapping and cord strapping after having used steel strapping all along, there expectation are really high regarding the strength of these strapping. But cord strapping does not disappoint, and is an ideal replacement for steel. It is also durable and cost effective. Some industry experts even refer to cord strapping as synthetic steel.
The other types of cord like woven and bonded are also good with manual tools especially. The 1.5” woven cord is approved for rail roads, is made of polyester and is very strong. Composite cord is made of polyester fibers and encased in polymer coating. Users find that it is easy to loop around the product to be packaged.
